Abstract

The muck pile fragmentation formed as a result of blasting depends on the specific charge, the discontinuity values of the blasting surface, and the rock strength. The determination of the discontinuity characteristics and the rocks strength among them is a long and difficult process.  The said two parameters is directly associated with the rock drilling speed. Therefore, the drilling speed parameter of the driller used for drilling the blasting hole was used in the prediction of the muck pile fragmentation before blasting, rather than the blasting hole discontinuity characteristics and the rock strength parameters.  Primarily, it was put forth that the muck pile fragmentation values were determined correctly by establishing correlations between the the efficiency of loader and the muck pile fragmentation.  Because the muck pile fragmentation is directly associated with the the efficiency of loader. Subsequently, a correlation predicting the drilling speed of the driller was developed according to the blasting surface discontinuity characteristics and the rock strength and finally a correlation predicting the muck pile fragmentation according to the specific charge and the drilling speed of the driller. The data obtained were provided by carrying out the blasting tests in two different limestone quarries.
