Abstract

In an effort to understand and model a novel steelmaking process, the fundamentals of decarburisation in bath steelmaking processes were reviewed. Chemical reactions and physical phenomena that contribute to the rate of decarburisation were sought from literature. From traditional bath steelmaking processes, it was found that oxygen as the removing agent of carbon from pig iron, can be the rate determining factor at one of many stages in the process. The rates of each steps as currently understood in literature have been presented in this article
